Gym-Wheel Team collects medals at Nationals E-mail

5x gold, 2x silver, and 2x bronze. Sarah Metz won Gold in Vault, Daniel Sternberger won his first medal (straight-line, Bronze) in a national competition, Julia Pohling is German Champion in the all-around competition, spiral and vault, and she won silver in straight-line. Jasmin Schönbach is vice-champion in the young junior girls class, Katharina Albert finished third. Marvin Homeyer placed first in the young junior boy’s class.

Julia Pohling (Neuhof) cleaned up at the nationals. She won 3 of 4 possible titles (all-around, spiral, vault). Only in straight-line with music she had to step aside for Jenny Hoffmann, who won with an excellent performance, like two weeks before at the World Championships. Christiane Sproß (Bleidenstadt) was very pleased with her own performance, but had wished for higher scores from the judges. Her starting position (No.2) did not help in the matter. In the end she finished 14th.
The men’s competition went really well for Stefan Serth and Alexander Wolf, who achieved rank 7 and 8 in the all around competition and furthermore qualified for the vault final. Here, they placed 5th and 6th. For Stefan (a trampolinist, who started gym-wheel training only 2 years ago) and Alex (a former soccer player, who started gym-wheel 6 years ago) this was a big success and definitely a big motivation for next year.
In the junior competition (15-18 years), Kira Weise (Bleidenstadt) could not compete because she injured a finger just the day before while rehearsing with the Show Team. All hopes were on Sarah Metz (Neuhof), but unfortunately she fell during her first discipline and lost important points. Although she did her best to catch up, she finished on rank 5. However, in the vault final, she showed like two weeks ago at the World Championships, that she is without doubt the best in her age group and won the gold medal.
Giulia Seifert (Neuhof) and Laura Kaiser did very well and were pleased to show solid performances in all three disciplines. They finished 11th and 13th. Coach Katja Homeyer has no doubt they will do even better in next year’s competitions. Daniel Sternberger could win his first medal in a national competition, a bronze medal well-deserved for a nice routine in the straight-line final. He achieved a good 6th place in the all-around competition.
In the young junior girl’s class (11-14 years) the competition was very close. About ten girls were fighting closely for the medals and every little mistake brought a decision. The girls from Taunusstein showed strong nerves and clean performances and for the first time. Jasmin Schönbach (Bleidenstadt) came 2nd, and Katharina Albert (Bleidenstadt) came 3rd. But also Hannah Leon, Kyra Voll, and Lynn Meusel (all from Neuhof) were not far behind and placed 9th,11th, and 13th. Marvin Homeyer dominated the boy’s competition and is the new German Champion in the young junior boy’s class.
