International German Gymnastics Festival 2009 in Frankfurt E-mail

Show-team performs at “Turngala” and at the closing ceremony

Without time for a break after the World Cup, the next highlight of the year took place just one week later. This year, the city of Frankfurt hosted the International German Gymnastics Festival, which takes place every four years and is, with over 2 million visitors this year, the biggest recreational gymnastics festival in the world. About 65,000 participants signed up this time to enjoy a week of sports, fun, games, and competitions. Disciplines include gymnastics (recreational and artistic), rhythmic gymnastics, happy gymnastics, athletics, ball games, wheel gymnastics, trampoline, dance, fitness, volleyball, beach volleyball, sports acrobatics, and much more. All major disciplines hold their national championships during this week as part of the festival.
For our Gym Wheel Team it meant three days of competitions, and four days of shows in one week for all age groups. Additionally, due to the nearby location, the TSV Taunusstein and the SV Neuhof provided a big number of gym wheels for various shows and competitions, which meant extra work and a logistic challenge.

The most important event for the Show Team during this week was without doubt the performance at the “Turngala”, the biggest and classiest show of the festival, with numerous celebrity guests, such as e.g. Fabian Hambüchen. Especially rehearsed for this show, the gym Wheel Team Taunusstein showed an adaptation of their new Formation “Saltatio” which was integrated beautifully into the show that was choreographed and produced by Marc Bogaerts.  As background, Bogaerts used a large projector screen, on which live pictures and movies complemented each act. For the entrance of the gym wheels for example, the audience saw a film of gym wheels racing on a highway towards them. Then, out of the fog, the group with 8 Gym Wheels and five Cry wheels appeared, shooting out on stage. The applause of the audience proved all the training was worth it. The Show Team could not have had a nicer stage to perform on. Pictures of the event will be posted shortly.
